House drainage and yard drainage
Digging for drainage around a building's foundations or to drain a yard that holds water. The trench is dug with a fall toward the outlet.
Machine
mini excavator
Typical depth
80–200 cm
Typical time
one to two days
How it's done
First we find where the water will go — without an outlet, a drain is just an expensive trench. The trench runs at a constant fall, usually one percent. The bottom gets a gravel bed, the pipe sits on it, and drainage stone and geotextile go on top so it doesn't clog with mud.
When we say no
We don't dig drainage next to the foundations of an old building without inspecting the foundations first. A trench next to a shallow footing can undermine it.
What to know afterward
Drainage with no outlet for the water doesn't work. If there's no manhole, ditch or gully nearby, we solve that first.
